SMB II Airport Returns to International Status! HD Airline Lobby for Palembang-Overseas Flights

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Following up on the Decree of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number KM 26 of 2025 which determined that Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II Palembang Airport would again have the status of an international airport, the Governor of South Sumatra H. Herman Deru moved quickly to review the airport’s readiness on Wednesday (30/4/2025).

This review was accompanied by the Commander of Sri Mulyono Herlambang (SMH) Air Force Base, Colonel Pnb Zulfikri Arif Purba, member of the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD H. Alfrenzi Panggarbesi, and representatives from PT Angkasa Pura II Palembang.

On that occasion, Governor Herman Deru immediately contacted the owner of the Lion Group, Rusdi Kirana, to discuss the acceleration of the opening of international flight routes from and to Palembang.

He emphasized the high enthusiasm of the people of South Sumatra to fly directly abroad. Herman Deru also plans to write to the Minister of Transportation cq. Director General of Air Transportation to facilitate the acceleration of airline administration in opening international routes, as well as encouraging other airlines such as Air Asia, Jet Air, and Scoot to participate.

In between the inspections, Governor Herman Deru also coordinated directly with the Immigration Office and Customs Office to immediately prepare for international flight operations.

Meanwhile, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (In Journey Airports) is also preparing three airports, including SMB II Palembang, to resume serving international flights. In Journey Airports President Director, Faik Fahmi, stated that coordination with all airport stakeholders is being carried out to optimize the status of the international airport. Preparations include customs, immigration, and quarantine units or personnel, as well as aspects of security, safety, and service. (ojn/ril)
