Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H. Herman Deru showed high optimism towards the 2025 Rice Field Construction program in South Sumatra. He is confident that this program will be able to contribute to national food in greater quantities than before, following Indonesia’s policy of no longer importing rice.
This was conveyed by Herman Deru when attending the Signing of the 2025 Rice Field Construction Contract at the Binapraja Auditorium, Wednesday (06/18/2025).
“After Indonesia’s policy of no longer importing rice, I am increasingly optimistic and not ambitious that from the results of this Rice Field Construction activity, the standard area of dry rice fields for harvest can be doubled, meaning it can be harvested twice. So that South Sumatra can contribute more to national food security,” he said with full confidence.
In 2025, South Sumatra is targeted to create 48,000 Ha of rice fields. Nine districts have contributed directly to this strategic activity. PALI Regency (3,200 Ha), Empat Lawang Regency (236 Ha), Muratara Regency (600 Ha), Musi Banyuasin Regency (9,400 Ha), Ogan Komering Ilir Regency (11,400 Ha), East OKU Regency (10,600 Ha), Ogan Ilir (10,600 Ha), Muara Enim Regency (1,764 Ha), Musi Rawas Regency (200 Ha).
“As of today, 1,800 Ha has been worked on and we have signed it with our partners, namely the TNI. We hope that our Standard Rice Field Area (LBS) will increase. If this LBS increases, then the production of dry milled rice will also increase, not because of the increase in the rice field area, but because the harvest area can be doubled,” added Herman Deru.
The Governor also hopes that this Rice Field Printing activity can be sustainable and productive for use. “Working on this rice field printing is not as easy as turning the palm of your hand because we don’t want this rice field to just be a stretch of rice field, but it must be a productive and sustainable land,” he said.
Herman Deru assessed that the Rice Field Printing Construction activity is a national project that must be fully supported. Therefore, he asked all parties involved to move quickly. (rys/ril)
