Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru attended the 13th Anniversary (Harlah) of Jam’iyyah Ahlith Thariqah al-Mu’tabarah an-Nahdliyyah (JATMAN) in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, held at the courtyard of Darussalam Mosque, Cahaya Mas Village, Mesuji Makmur, Lempuing District. His arrival was warmly welcomed by the local community with great enthusiasm.
“I came here because I truly miss the people here,” Governor Deru said, highlighting his close emotional bond with the residents.
The Governor underlined the significance of JATMAN’s role in maintaining harmony and social cohesion. “Our togetherness, our ability to avoid conflict—this is what enables us to move forward in regional development,” he remarked.
Deru also stressed that development must go beyond material aspects, pointing to the success of his One Village, One Tahfizh House program. He proudly noted that the initiative had achieved 50 percent of its target within two years, surpassing the number of villages. “Through tahfizh houses, we nurture young Quran reciters, and South Sumatra has even ranked in the top 10 nationally at the MTQ competition,” he added.
Addressing the challenges of modern times, including rapid technological change and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Governor emphasized the need for strong human resources who are not only intelligent but also ethical.
He reminded parents of their vital role in preparing the next generation ahead of Indonesia’s centennial in 2045, coinciding with the demographic bonus. “Focus on shaping the youth. Intelligence alone is not enough—it must be paired with strong character. In 2045, it will be this young generation who carries the torch forward,” he concluded.
The event was also attended by DPD RI Member Dr. Ratu Tenny Leriva, M.M., and other regional officials.
