Palembang, The Indonesia Post — South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru, accompanied by Palembang Mayor H. Ratu Dewa, officially flagged off participants of the Healthy Walk to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Sumatera Ekspres (Sumeks). The event was held at Jakabaring Sport City (JSC), Palembang, on Sunday morning (July 20, 2025).
The atmosphere was lively as thousands of residents filled the JSC area from early morning. In his remarks, Governor Deru welcomed the initiative as a positive event that not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also strengthens social bonds among the people of South Sumatra.
“This event gives us so many benefits. Sumeks has invited us to live healthily through sports, while also providing a platform for people to connect and foster togetherness,” Deru said.
The Governor also praised Sumatera Ekspres for its three decades of consistent service in delivering accurate and trustworthy information to the public.
“We hope Sumeks continues to be a reliable and beloved source of news for readers across the region,” he added.
To show appreciation for the participants, the organizers prepared a variety of prizes, including a grand prize of one car and an Umrah pilgrimage package, which were raffled off at the end of the event.
The event was also attended by officials from the South Sumatra Provincial Government, along with the management and editorial team of Sumatera Ekspres.
