Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) Dr. H. Herman Deru received an audience with Alumni of the Palembang Branch of the Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School Family Association (IKPM) in the South Sumatra Governor’s Guest Room, Wednesday (4/3/2026).
The meeting was held to strengthen ties and discuss plans for more structured and systematic data collection on students and alumni.
On that occasion, Herman Deru emphasized that the existence of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) is a vital need for the region, including South Sumatra. He believes that Islamic boarding schools play a significant role in producing human resources who excel not only in religious knowledge but also possess strong character and morals.
According to him, the role of Islamic boarding schools in developing a young generation with integrity is a crucial foundation for supporting regional development, both from a moral and social perspective. (mhn/ril)
