Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Regional Secretary of South Sumatra Province, Drs. H. Edward Candra, MH opened the Cheap Market Operation (OPM) activity of the South Sumatra Provincial Government in synergy with Bank Indonesia Representative Office of South Sumatra Province and BUMN/BUMD in the yard of the Ilir Barat Permai Complex (Thursday, 05/03/2026).
This activity was carried out in order to maintain the stability of staple food prices during the holy month of Ramadan and to welcome Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
In his remarks, the Regional Secretary expressed his appreciation to all parties who had supported the implementation of this activity.
“Price stability and public purchasing power must be maintained, especially during the current holy month of Ramadan. Some food commodities that frequently experience price fluctuations include chilies and broiler chicken. Therefore, the government is paying special attention to maintaining the stability of these commodity prices,” he explained.
Furthermore, the Regional Secretary also reminded the public to continue the South Sumatra Food Self-Sufficiency Movement by utilizing their yards to grow various staple foods. This measure is expected to help control inflation while also meeting family food needs.
Some of the commodities sold in this activity include rice, chicken eggs, cooking oil, granulated sugar, shallots, garlic, curly red chilies, large red chilies, bird’s eye chilies, broiler chicken, frozen meat, premium ground snapper fish, and premium ground mackerel fish.
The South Sumatra Province Cheap Market Operation was also held at several locations, including the Ilir Barat Permai Complex (5/3), the South Sumatra Provincial Transportation Agency UPTD Yard (10/3), the South Sumatra Governor’s Office Yard (11/3), and the Sukawinatan TPA (17/3).
Also in attendance were Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs Zulkarnain, Chair of the South Sumatra Provincial DWP Hj. Desy Kasnayati Edward, Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Bank Indonesia Representative Office Bambang Pramono, and heads of regional government agencies (OPDs) of the South Sumatra Provincial Government.
