Herman Deru Attends Ummi Method Al-Qur’an Training, Encourages Parents to Proudly Produce a Generation of Al-Qur’an Memorizers

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru attended the Opening of the Khotmul Quran and Imtihan Akbar Activity of the 3rd Batch of Tartil, Tahfidz and Turjuman Ummi Method held by Ummi Palembang at the Grand Ballroom Golden Sriwijaya (Thursday, 14/5/2026).

The activity was attended by hundreds of participants from various tahfidz institutions in South Sumatra as part of strengthening Al-Quran education and developing a Quranic generation.

“I am honestly touched, because this is my program in my first term, one village one tahfidz house,” said Herman Deru.l starting his speech.

He said that initially, there were doubts about the program’s rapid growth. However, thanks to the support of religious teachers (ustadzah), Quranic education advocates, and the community, the tahfidz house program has continued to grow in various regions across South Sumatra.

According to Herman Deru, the number of tahfidz (Quran memorization) centers in South Sumatra has now reached over 5,000 in just four years. He attributes this accelerated growth to a shift in public perceptions toward religious education.

“This tahfidz house is not just about the building, but also about teaching and learning the Quran,” he said.

Herman Deru also expressed his pride in South Sumatra’s achievements in the National MTQ competition. He noted that South Sumatra had been in the top 10 in the 2006 MTQ and had made it back to the top 10 in 2022 after a 16-year wait.

On that occasion, Herman Deru encouraged parents to be proud if their children pursue Quranic studies and become a generation of Quran memorizers. He hoped the participants would share their knowledge with the wider community, so that the spread of the Quran would continue to grow in South Sumatra.

Herman Deru also emphasized the importance of mothers’ roles in children’s education. He believes that educational success is inseparable from a mother’s role as the first teacher for her children. (mhn/ril)
