Yogyakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Yogyakarta City Tourism Office recorded a fairly high number of tourist visits throughout January 2022, reaching 780,000 people obtained from hotel guest data and visits to tourist destinations.
“The number is quite high. This surprised us because usually January is the ‘low season’,” said Head of the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office, Wahyu Hendratmoko in Yogyakarta, Thursday.
Nevertheless, continued Wahyu, it is possible that there is double data in the calculation of the number of tourist visits because it is possible for hotel guests to also visit various tourist destinations in Yogyakarta.
The number of 780,000 tourists during January consisted of 670,000 hotel guests and the rest were visits to tourism destinations.
“This condition for us is an anomaly. However, we have confirmed with the hotel and indeed the occupancy in January is quite high, especially around Malioboro,” he said.
In 2022, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office targets a total tourist visit of 1.4 million people. This number is a projection of tourist visits referring to visits in 2021 as many as 1.1 million people.
In 2022, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office will change the strategy for calculating the number of tourist visits every month from the previous one year.
The change in strategy is intended so that the government can take the right policies and strategies for tourism development in the city.
“If the number of tourist visits only appears once a year, of course we will find it difficult to adjust the strategy. Especially in a pandemic condition like now, a fast and appropriate strategy is needed,” he said.
A number of tourism development efforts that will be carried out this year will still rely on increasing promotion and developing tourist attraction attractions.
“So that there is always something new in a certain period so that tourists are still interested in coming,” he said.
In addition, the Gempita innovation or the rapid movement of disseminating regulations from the government is one of the efforts to accelerate the provision of policy or regulatory information to tourism actors.
“Hopefully, tourism actors can quickly take steps to adjust policies from the government and we can carry out supervision and guidance if violations occur,” he said. (ojn/bbs)
