Medan, The Indonesia Post – The National Democratic (NasDem) Party predicts that the proposal or discourse on the postponement of the 2024 election and the extension of President Jokowi’s term of office will soon end.
Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, in Medan, Thursday, said the postponement of the election could be done when the law was amended. It can’t just be with a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law.
“We consider it (the postponement), which raises issues, and offers discourses that offer concepts and ideas that are gratefully accepted by the community. But Nasdem’s predictions do not end at the level of courage and agreement to amend the law,” he said after opening of the North Sumatra Nasdem Party regional coordination meeting on Jalan Prof. HM Yamin, Medan.
When the postponement of the election was decided through a perppu, he considered it very dangerous and could lead to the current government.
“The only thing is to take this to the MPR session and make amendments. Nasdem is able to predict it, before that, the game is over. Why do we waste energy on this, there are many other things that must be our collective concern,” he stressed.
He said many things could be done instead of thinking about the issue of postponing the 2024 General Election. One of them was regarding the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had not yet ended and also regarding the relocation of the capital city.
“This is something bigger than that. Like water, when the glass is filled with water beyond the glass, it will spill, that’s not good. We have maximum capacity and don’t go beyond this,” he concluded. (mhn/bbs)
