Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra (Sumsel) H. Herman Deru admitted that although the province of South Sumatra contains various kinds of potential that has made South Sumatra famous, the South Sumatra Provincial Government has chosen to focus on agriculture because agriculture is directly managed by the community.
According to him, direct community involvement in agricultural processing has had a major impact on improving the welfare of the people in South Sumatra Province.
“Our planting area is certainly much larger than the province in Java geographically for us to be a food barn, but why is our production not as optimal as in Java? If I think that the most dominant thing to be able to increase this production is the spirit of the farmers themselves, the spirit of the farmers themselves, then this is not an easy thing, that farmers are not only the responsibility of the agricultural service of the ministry of agriculture, but the responsibility of all, from upstream to downstream. ,” he said during the virtual Banyuasin 20th Anniversary Sarahsehan at the Comman Center of the Governor’s Office. For information, agricultural product processors in meeting food needs in South Sumatra Province, the total production of dry milled unhusked rice (GKG) reached 2,552,442 tons or equivalent to 1,659,088 tons of rice, consumption of 791,572 tons and a surplus of 867,416 tons.
Therefore Governor Herman Deru invites all elements of society to think the same and think together for South Sumatra, especially in Banyuasin Regency. He is sure that there will be no more problems.
Governor Herman Deru explained that currently South Sumatra Province continues to develop innovations in agriculture and plantations. Especially to realize food security in order to fulfill the basic needs of the community, namely the South Sumatra Food Independent Movement.
