Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Chairperson of the South Sumatra Legislative Council (DPRD) Dr. Hj. RA Anita Noeringhati, SH., MH Receives an Audience from the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) at the House of Representatives of the chairman of the South Sumatra DPRD. Thursday (24/4/2024).
At this hearing, AJI Palembang, chaired by Fajar Wiko, asked for blessings to hold the XII Congress of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) in Palembang City on 2-5 May 2024.
Chairman of AJI Palembang, Fajar Wiko, said that the XII AJI Congress would be held for 5 days with a series of Pre-Congress fact check meetings throughout Indonesia attended by journalists from across Southeast Asia.

“The AJI Congress will be attended by more than 200 AJI journalists from all over Indonesia. “AJI always campaigns for three points related to press freedom, journalist professionalism and journalist welfare,” he said.
Fajar Wiko added that the press freedom index in South Sumatra Province was decreasing. He hopes that the regional government will be present in suppressing press freedom in South Sumatra.
“Therefore, AJI Palembang supports the existence of a Pioneer Regional Regulation on press freedom in South Sumatra,” he said.
AJI’s path is more towards advocacy, because there is a breath of movement. In making the Regional Regulation, AJI is ready to synergize with the South Sumatra DPRD.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the South Sumatra DPRD, Dr. Hj. RA Anita Noeringhati, SH., MH said that she agreed with the three points conveyed by AJI Palembang regarding press freedom, journalist professionalism and journalist welfare.
“I hope AJI Palembang can maintain accurate, factual and reliable reporting that avoids hoax reporting,” hoped this Golkar politician. The regional regulation on press freedom can be proposed to the regional government through the South Sumatra Communication and Information Service (Diskominfo) and Commission I of the South Sumatra DPRD.
“This is the role of the DPRD as a representative of the community in accommodating the aspirations of the people of South Sumatra,” he concluded. (ojn/ril)
