The General Election Commission (KPU) of South Sumatra (Sumsel) officially launched the Election for Governor (Pilgub) and Deputy Governor for the 2024-2029 period which will be held simultaneously on November 27 2024.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari accompanied by the Acting Governor of South Sumatra Agus Fatoni and the Chairman of the South Sumatra Provincial KPU Andika Pranata Jaya, Sunday (5/5) evening in the courtyard of the South Sumatra KPU office, Jakabaring, Palembang.

Apart from the Chairman and several Deputy Chairmen of the South Sumatra Provincial DPRD, there were also the Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Agus Fatoni, South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General A Rachmat Wibowo, Sriwijaya Military Commander II Major General Moh Naudi Nurdika and other guests.

The Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Agus Fatoni, said that this launch was a sign of the start of the election for Governor and Deputy Governor in South Sumatra Province. This is also a sign of the joint commitment of all parties in order to make the 2024 simultaneous democratic agenda a success.

“I hope that the people of South Sumatra can exercise their right to vote and hopefully community participation goes beyond the presidential and legislative elections,” he said. Fatoni also invited all levels of society to maintain the conducive climate in South Sumatra. This is thanks to togetherness, cohesiveness and commitment to running the democratic party well. Hopefully the success of yesterday’s election will be repeated in the regional elections. “We maintain South Sumatra’s zero conflict,” he said.

Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy’ari, revealed that the KPU is the central institution that organizes general elections, where this launch is a sign that the 2024 gubernatorial election will be held.

“This is the first time that regional elections have been held simultaneously in all 37 provinces in Indonesia except for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). “Meanwhile, for City districts, regional elections will also be held simultaneously in 508 of the 514 City districts,” he said.

For the election of Governor and Deputy Governor in South Sumatra, the stages are the same as the others.

“We have carried out PPK recruitment. From 241 sub-districts in South Sumatra, the written test will be held tomorrow. Next is the recruitment of PPS candidates. “The officers were prepared at the beginning to help with general election activities,” said Hasyim.

The public can participate in making the regional elections a success by becoming PPS.

Chairman of the South Sumatra Provincial KPU, Andika Pranata Jaya, said that the launch of the 2024 Governor and Deputy Governor Election in South Sumatra was an important event.

“This ceremony marks the start of the simultaneous regional elections in South Sumatra… November 27 2024 will be the voting day,” he said.

The South Sumatra KPU event ended with the presence of the Indonesian band, Padi Reborn, marking the start of the Election for Governor (Pilgub) and Deputy Governor for the 2024-2029 period which will be held simultaneously on November 27 2024. (ojn/ril)
