PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru requested that the art of reading poetry can be used as extracurricular activities both in elementary, junior, and high school education.
He conveyed this when he opened the literary work of reading poetry, musical poetry, and drama monologues in commemoration of Indonesian poetry day 2020 at the Palembang AK Gani Fighting Museum, Sunday (9/8).
HD said that the art of poetry deserves to be preserved, considering that in the art of poetry itself contains a lot of education, especially Indonesian.
“Poetry is an art that not everyone can understand, compose, or read, but the art of poetry is extraordinary. I was inspired by this art of poetry to be included in extracurricular activities in schools,” said HD.
According to him, poetry is a part of expression that can have a positive impact on those who listen to it.
“Poetry does not only contain complaints of grievances. For that we must look at the moment, including the current melenial era. Poetry can be used as a means to spread enthusiasm,” he said.
One example, he continued, is that poetry can be used as a spirit spreader during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
“Give enthusiasm through poetry. Artists must be present in any condition, including during the Covid-19 pandemic like today. Create art that encourages the community,” he explained.
“The art of poetry does not only target one group, but poetry can be consumed from the public to the government,” he added.
To that end, he instructed the related agencies to immediately include the art of poetry in the school ecreurricular.
“Everyone has the responsibility for the sustainability of this poetry art. I ask the related agencies to immediately realize the art of poetry as part of the extracurricular activities,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Committee Edwin Fast appreciated the steps initiated by the Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru.
“We would like to thank the governor. He has encouraged the continuity of the art of poetry in South Sumatra so that it will continue to develop,” he concluded. (ojn/rel)
