D-5 Ied, Government Distributes Bansos to 8.3 Million Families

Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Massive social assistance (Bansos) is planned to be distributed ahead of Idul Fitri 1441 Hijri. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said there will be social assistance distribution for 8.3 million Beneficiary Families (KPM), or around 80 percent of the target of 9 million KPM.

This social assistance program will be provided through PT POS Indonesia and will be made no later than five days before Eid.

“Five days before the Eid will be distributed on large scale,” Muhadjir was quoted by Cable News Network Indonesia.

Muhadjir claimed to have coordinated with the Minister of Social Affairs and Managing Director of PT Pos Indonesia for massive distribution of social assistance ahead of the Eid.

“If it is necessary, PT postal staff do not take Eid holidays, to meet the target,” he said.

Since it was announced in early March 2020, social assistance (Bansos) for residents affected by the corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) has caused various problems. The clutter of beneficiary data has sparked heated debate between the central and regional governments.

One of the first cases that surfaced to the public was in Bekasi. At that time, the public was shocked by the news that the owners of two cars received social assistance. While the 20 eligible households in RT 04 / RW 09, Telukpucung Village, North Bekasi, do not receive any assistance at all.

Not to mention the problem of social assistance in DKI Jakarta. The central government and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had a dispute over data and ended up in a public debate. (ray/bbs)
