Nusa Dua, The Indonesia Post – SOE Minister Erick Thohir revealed that the Indonesia Water Fund (IWF) is an alternative solution in expanding access to clean water for the people of Indonesia.
“Through the synergy of SOEs with private and global strategic partners, IWF is expected to be an alternative solution for the government in expanding access to clean water to the public through non-APBN funding,” said Erick Thohir at the SOE International Conference and the Launch of the Indonesia Water Fund in Nusa Dua, Bali. , Monday.
He added that the Ministry of SOEs initiated the IWF in order to accelerate equitable access to clean water for the people of Indonesia.
IWF is a platform to support accelerated investment related to the provision of clean water connections to people’s homes, where access to clean water is still a challenge in many countries, including Indonesia.
Only 23 percent of Indonesians have access to clean water and some others still have difficulty having access to clean water, so they have to pay around Rp. 65,000 to Rp. 140,000 per cubic meter to get clean water.
In carrying out the role of SOEs as development agents, he continued, SOEs have encouraged several programs such as the distribution of funding for ultra-micro and the implementation of national strategic programs that can create jobs.
“In the future we will continue to run programs that have a direct impact on improving the quality of life of the Indonesian people,” said Erick Thohir.
Previously, the Ministry of SOEs had prepared a clean water funding program which will be launched at the G20 Summit in Bali at the end of this year.
Erick Thohir explained that clean water funding is part of the transformation of SOEs by assigning the Danareksa holding to work on the program. (mhn/bbs)
