Herman Deru Calms the Participants of the Labor Solidarity Action at the South Sumatra DPRD Office

PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – The solidarity action of thousands of workers and students in South Sumatra who again held a demonstration against the Work Creation Law in front of the South Sumatra DPRD Office, Thursday (15/10), caught the attention of South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru.

After conducting a working visit to the Ground Breaking of the Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung toll road construction in Toy Village KM 25, Sumbawa Subdistrict, Banyuasin Regency, Herman Deru immediately met the protesters who were carrying out the solidarity action. The presence of Herman Deru in the midst of the action participants at least was able to provide a glimmer of hope that the action participants demanded.

In front of thousands of protesters, Herman Deru emphasized that he would recommend the demands of the solidarity action participants regarding points in the Job Creation Law that they felt should be re-discussed.

“I accept the aspiration, I support this action of very friendly solidarity. And I will recommend this demand to the central government,” said HD.

He also said that previously, he had issued an official letter signed with points of refusal to be submitted to the central government.

“I have written a signed official letter. Even the students have brought it to the center related to the omnibus law.

According to him, in recent days he and members of the South Sumatra DPRD and Forkompimda have been very concerned about discussing the issues related to the Job Creation Law.

“What is requested by colleagues, please write down and I will send it or if necessary I will take it directly to the central government of workers’ aspirations in South Sumatra,” he explained.

This includes articles in the Job Creation Law that the workers who hold the solidarity action feel are concerned about.

“The articles that are worrying let us open together after yesterday’s stipulation of the draft of the Job Creation Law. What needs to be improved with regard to employment we will suggest to the central government,” he explained.

This, he continued, was a form of support and attention to workers in South Sumatra.

“I, as the governor, together with the DPRD and Forkompinda, certainly do not want workers in South Sumatra to live unworthy lives. This is a form of our support for workers. South Sumatra workers must live with dignity,” he said. (mhn/ril)
