Meeting the demonstrators, Herman Deru Commitment to Uphold the Law Indiscriminately

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – In the midst of a busy work agenda Thursday (13/8/20) morning, South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru met dozens of demonstrators on behalf of himself Sriwijaya Corruption Watch (SCW) at the Governor’s Office courtyard.

Regarding SCW’s statement that asked the Governor of South Sumatra to stop the activities of illegal coal mining companies and stop coal transportation activities that were suspected of using public roads, HD appreciated the demands made by the demonstrators.

As the head of the region, he is committed to enforcing a fair law for all groups without discrimination. He also did not want the law enforcement in South Sumatra to appear sharp downward but blunt upward.

“I appreciate the efforts of friends of SCW who have informed me about this,” said the Governor of South Sumatra.

HD explained, since the first time he was appointed as Governor on October 1, 2018, he was very concerned about absorbing the aspirations of the South Sumatra people who felt disturbed by the number of coal-hauling trucks using public roads. Because it was only about a week later that he was inaugurated. He immediately revoked Pergub No. 23/2013 on Procedures for the Transport of Coal on Public Streets. Starting from November 8, 2018, the rules have come into effect.

After the revocation of this regulation, the regulations relating to coal transportation have returned to regional regulation (perda) No. 5/2011 concerning the Transport of Coal through Special Routes. (jack / rel)
