President Jokowi welcomes the interest of Singaporean investors to be involved in the construction of ‘IKN’

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) welcomed the interest of Singaporean investors to be involved in the development of the Archipelago’s / Nusantara National Capital (IKN).

The President conveyed this in a joint press conference with Singapore Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong after the 2023 Indonesia-Singapore Leaders Retreat in Singapore, Thursday.

“I welcome some of the results of the Leaders’ Retreat, the first of which is the huge interest from Singapore investors in the development of the National Archipelagic National Institute,” Jokowi said in a press conference broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

The President revealed that from the Leaders’ Retreat there were 20 Singaporean private companies that had submitted letters of interest or “Letters of Intent” (LoI) to invest in IKN Nusantara.

On the same occasion, PM Lee stated that IKN Nusantara would be a pilot project for the Singapore-Indonesia memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding urban and sustainable housing development.

“We signed an MoU for the development of urban and sustainable housing which will facilitate cooperation in the development, financing and innovation of smart and sustainable infrastructure, especially we will include Nusantara as a pilot project,” said Lee.

PM Lee admitted that during the Leaders’ Retreat he and President Jokowi had discussed the National Archipelago for a long time.

PM Lee lauded the green and smart vision of IKN Nusantara as a priority for President Jokowi.

“Singapore is happy to support President Jokowi’s vision, contributing through knowledge sharing activities, research activities and joint development,” he said.

PM Lee added that one of the MoUs signed by Singapore-Indonesia during the Meeting Retreat included collaboration in knowledge sharing, capacity building, research to support planning, the development of IKN Nusantara as a smart and sustainable city.

The PM of Singapore confirmed that several of his country’s private sectors had expressed interest in the IKN Nusantara project.

Therefore, PM Lee has conveyed to President Jokowi that his party welcomes an investor forum related to Nusantara which Indonesia plans to hold in May 2023.

“We will encourage Singaporean entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs to participate in it,” said Lee. (mhn/bbs)
