Prevent South Sumatra Children from Stunting, Feby Deru Campaigns for the Benefits of Exclusive Breastfeeding

PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – Children are the future generation of the nation in the future. The challenges faced by children in the future are certainly tougher than the present generation. To create a competitive next generation, it must start in the womb and during its infancy.

One of the most important intake during the early growth period is to give breast milk (ASI) exclusively to babies. Breast milk is the best food for babies. By giving breast milk, mothers have fulfilled the basic rights of their children.

However, not all mothers have an awareness of the importance of breastfeeding for their children. Therefore to raise awareness of mothers requires the involvement of all parties.

“This exclusive breastfeeding campaign must continue. Because we provide training to increase Posyandu cadres and exclusive breastfeeding seminars. There are many benefits for mothers and children by providing exclusive breastfeeding,” said the head of TP PKK Sumsel Feby Deru when he opened and was a speaker at the training Skills Improvement of Posyandu Cadres in the context of Reducing Stunting and Using Toga to Increase Breast Milk in the Hall of the South Sumatra Health Training Center, Tuesday (22/09/2020).

Providing exclusive breastfeeding, according to Feby, will change the perspective of mothers about breastfeeding, so that it will make mothers more determined to provide exclusive breastfeeding for children under five.

“One of the benefits is to protect babies from germs, provide complete nutrition, guarantee hygienic and safe intake, make babies grow healthy and smart, prevent diarrhea and malnutrition, strengthen the bonding between mother and baby, reduce the risk of cancer, help give distance to the baby. birth, save costs, and protect the environment. These are the extraordinary benefits of breastfeeding, “she explained.

Regarding complete nutrition, as well as guaranteed hygienic and safe intake, Feby said that no food can match the nutrition contained in breast milk. Especially in the midst of the current Covid-19 outbreak, exclusive breastfeeding is needed.

“Breast milk is definitely safe and guaranteed to be consumed by babies. The immunity of babies can be maintained. Mothers don’t have to bother to give formula milk. With exclusive breastfeeding, mothers can save costs. Moreover, this is an effort to prevent stunting,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Committee, dr. Erly Yani in her report said that the activity was held to increase awareness of district / city posyandu cadres about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.

“There are 70 delegation participants from regencies / cities. It is hoped that later they will be able to spread the information and knowledge obtained from participating in this activity in their respective regions,” he said.

The material presented in this activity included the role of the PKK in supporting the exclusive breastfeeding campaign. Decreased stunting and MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate). The role of Posyandu cadres in reducing stunting and MMR in South Sumatra, healthy food to prevent and overcome stunting, and the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for babies and mothers.
