Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Preparations for the COVID-19 endemic in Indonesia are carried out in stages starting in early 2023 by considering the controlled case situation until the end of 2022, said the official at the National COVID-19 Handling Task Force.
“We hope that if this September is controlled until the end of the year, then according to the initial plan, we will prepare for the endemic in stages in early 2023,” said the Head of the Health Support Sub-Division for the Emergency Division of the COVID-19 Task Force Alexander K. Ginting when speaking at the Talkshow: Measuring Protocol Relevance. Health, followed by BNPB Indonesia’s Youtube in Jakarta, Thursday.
He said the pandemic situation in Indonesia so far has experienced a significant decrease in the number of daily cases.
Based on the report of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force as of September 7, 2022, the number of active cases is around 38,000 people, or an average of around 3,000 people per day.
That number decreased significantly in the last two weeks when it reached 52,078 active cases.
“Indonesia is still in a pandemic situation. People are bored (with the pandemic), but the infection is still ongoing, so the status of the pandemic is still, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not revoked it either,” he said.
Alexander also reminded the public to be aware of the incidence of coughs and colds that are currently rife in the community.
“But there are also many people who have coughs and colds, they are isoman in their respective homes. What the government has said is to remain vigilant, not to be ignored, given the fluctuating fluctuating cases,” he said.
According to Alexander, the scope of the COVID-19 vaccination is still a homework that needs to be completed. In addition, public compliance with health protocols for wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands (3M) also still needs to be improved.
The government has again extended the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities through the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) Number 42 of 2022 for the Java-Bali region, and Inmendagri Number 43 of 2022 for areas outside Java-Bali.
The two Inmendagri are valid from September 6 to October 3, 2022. The Inmendagri is substantially not much different from the previous regulation.
In addition, based on input from experts, all regions in Indonesia have PPKM level 1 status, although the positivity rate is still above the WHO standard of 5 percent of the total population. (mhn/bbs)
