The Minister of Transportation continues to push for efficiency in shipping logistics costs in Indonesia

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi continues to encourage stakeholders in the shipping sector to make efforts to make logistics cost efficiency efforts in Indonesia.

This was conveyed when he inspected the 16,000 TEU Alexander Von Humboldt ship, which is the largest container ship, docked at Tanjung Priok Port (JITC), Jakarta, Monday.

“With the presence of large ships that make direct calls or direct shipping, without stopping at other ports from Indonesian ports to destination ports, our logistics costs are getting cheaper, so that Indonesia’s competitiveness will also increase,” said the Minister of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation also asked stakeholders such as port authorities, harbormasters, PT Pelindo, and other relevant stakeholders to provide good services to ships that dock at Tanjung Priok Port.

According to him, the berth of the large ship is a sign that Indonesian ports are in demand by shipping operators to serve international trade.

“We must not be satisfied with this quickly. We must continue to make efforts to reduce logistics numbers and this cannot be done alone but with joint collaboration,” he said.

This vessel owned by CMA CGM Columbus JAX (JAX) serves a direct route from Jakarta to the United States, to facilitate export trade between Indonesia and the United States.

This container ship visit is the first of three 16,000 TEU CMA CGM series which will also dock at JICT.

JAX Services also offers seamless connectivity to the East Coast and West Coast of the US with a transition time of 34 days and increased industrial transit times.

JAX services deliver local products and manufactured products such as paper, rubber, garments, and electronics from Indonesia to North America every week.

Also attending the visit were Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM Asia Pacific Limited Laurent Olmeta, President Director of CMA CGM Indonesia John Lim, and President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono. (mhn/bbs)
