Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi explained the origin of the name “Whoosh” for the Jakarta-Bandung fast train (KCJB) which has an operational speed of up to 350 km/hour.
Budi said that the naming of the fast train was requested by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) by assigning State Secretariat Minister Pratikno to hold a logo and name competition for Indonesia’s newest mode of transportation.
By involving people who work in creative fields, the Ministry of State Secretary then nominated 10 people who had the capacity to create a high-speed train logo design in just two weeks.
“But dialectics in the field occur. Mr. President said several times people said was whoosh was whoosh, then one day the President said is that not good? Whoosh? “Finally the three big creative actors were invited to develop (the logo and name) Whoosh,” said the Minister of Transportation on the sidelines of the inauguration of KCJB at Halim Station, Jakarta, Monday.
The name Whoosh, which stands for Great System Optimal Operation Saving Time, was inspired by the sound of a high-speed train.
“Reading it wus means it’s very high speed,” said Minister of Transportation Budi.
“This is a blessing. But what is unique is the dialectic in the field with the President saying Whoosh, that’s good, we heard it in the field. “And these designers are also cooperative so that (the naming) can be done short, so we chose the name Whoosh,” he added.
KCJB or known as Whoosh has an operational speed of up to 350 km/hour which connects Tegalluar in Bandung, West Java, with Halim in East Jakarta.
With a headway of 20-30 minutes, Whoosh provides many travel time options so that the distance from Jakarta to Bandung will be covered in 36 to 44 minutes.
The train features a spacious and modern design and has three classes with a total capacity of 601 passengers, along with a special room for the disabled.
From September to mid-October, the government has made Whoosh train transportation rates free for people who want to try using the fast train.
Later, the KCJB transportation tariff will soon be decided by the government in the range of IDR 250 thousand to IDR 350 thousand. (mhn/bbs)
