Sorong, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin invites all people in Papua to work together to develop the Land of Papua, which is known as the Earth of Cenderawasih.
The Vice President conveyed this during a friendly gathering with religious leaders, traditional leaders and community leaders in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Sunday.
“I invite all parties in Papua to work together to build unity as citizens, as a nation. So, I continue to invite friends who are still not integrated in those areas. There are still friends, what I mean, come back soon. together we build Papua,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President emphasized that development in Papua is solely for the progress and welfare of the Papuan people, and the government does not take advantage of this development.
“There is no interest from the central government (the government does not take advantage of Papua’s development). Everything is placed (built) in Papua for all Papuans and will not be brought to Jakarta, that is the government’s commitment,” he explained.
On that occasion, the Vice President also asked the church union in Papua to continue to appeal to the public to stay away from separatist actions or things that cause conflict and cost lives.
“To the Church, I beg that no one else wants to sacrifice their soul, I think. I think any religion forbids that, right? You can’t take someone’s life,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President said that in Islam it is stated that killing one person is the same as killing all humans on Earth.
“So, it’s very hard. I think Christianity is the same, life has a very high value. It would be nice if Papua was peaceful, prosperous, safe, and that’s what we (the government) hope for,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
