Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin ensured that the implementation of the pilgrimage would be evaluated every year to make up for any deficiencies that occurred.
“The issue of Hajj every year there is always an evaluation. So what is good, what is not good, which needs to be perfected, is always evaluated,” said the Vice President in a press statement after witnessing the Inauguration of the Regional Sharia Economic and Financial Committee (KDEKS) for East Kalimantan Province, in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Friday.
The Vice President’s statement addressed a question about the number of pilgrims who died in the Holy Land, namely 772 people, which is the highest number since 2015.
The Vice President said the number of pilgrims who died was caused by several factors, one of which was the large number of elderly pilgrims.
“Now this year there is indeed a problem that needs to get more serious (attention), a lot of people who died, that’s because first of all, of course there are many elderly pilgrims,” he said.
The second factor, said the vice president, was the hot weather in Saudi Arabia during the pilgrimage.
While the third factor is the lack of readiness in dealing with the large number of elderly congregations and hot weather.
“The third factor in dealing with these two things (the large number of elderly people and hot weather) is not prepared for anticipation, including perhaps Saudi rules, synchronization of rules for dealing with elderly congregations and hot weather, there must be anticipatory steps,” he said.
These factors, according to the Vice President, need to be evaluated as anticipatory steps for organizing the Hajj in the coming years so that it can be carried out better.
“Apart from what was evaluated this year, we must anticipate what will happen next year,” he said.
In addition, continued the Vice President, various challenges and other problems that may occur in the implementation of the upcoming Hajj must also be inventoried and alternative solutions must be sought.
“We don’t know what the problems will be in the future, the problems we are facing are anticipated. So addressing yesterday’s shortcomings and also the challenges ahead are not necessarily the same, they could be different. We have to prepare that, in order to carry out the evaluation it must be as perfect as possible (and) as optimal as possible,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
