The reduction in stunting in Papua moved 5.1 percent

Jayapura, The Indonesia Post – The Central Financial and Development Monitoring Agency (BPKP) said that through an evaluation of the acceleration of stunting reduction, the average Stunting Prevalence Rate (APS) in Papua Province showed a significant movement, namely 5.1 percent from the 2021 APS of 29.5 percent to 34.6 percent. in 2022.

Deputy for Supervision of Government Agencies for Political, Legal, Security, Human Development and Culture BPKP Iwan Taufiq Purwanto said that in this condition, efforts must be immediately implemented to implement specific and sensitive interventions directed at families at risk of stunting.

“Also increasing the new budget allocation by IDR 6 billion or 0.17 percent of the APBD to target the community directly,” he said during the inauguration ceremony for the Head of the Papua Province BPKP Representative in Jayapura City, Monday.

According to Purwanto, this can optimally support the achievement of Indonesia’s stunting prevalence rate target in 2024 according to the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) of 14 percent.

He explained that in order to oversee the development agenda in Papua up to the third quarter of this year, the Papua Province BPKP Representative had carried out supervision activities on 55 or 82 percent of the Supervisory Priority Agenda (APP).

“And monitoring activities over one or 100 percent of the Regional Supervision Priority Agenda (APPD) which is the realization of the 2023 plan of 67 APPs and one APPD,” he said.

He said that APPD’s supervision was an effort by BPKP to supervise the government and regional governments in improving the economy in the regions in accordance with regional conditions and the potential and challenges faced.

Thus, he said, the Papua Province BPKP Representative has carried out an Evaluation of Performance Based Budgeting Planning (Evran) for the Papua Provincial Government, Jayapura City and Merauke Regency in the food security, tourism and connectivity infrastructure sectors with a total evaluated budget of IDR 851 billion.

“Based on the results of EVRAN, we have been conveyed important things to follow up on, including the potential for an ineffective budget because it is not results-oriented to support the ultimate outcome of IDR 24 billion and a budget that has the potential to be inefficient in achieving the target of IDR 4.5 billion,” he said again.

He added that it is very important to carry out follow-up actions immediately so that the limited state and regional finances can be more targeted, effective and more efficient in their use to produce the greatest benefit for society.

Apart from that, to continue to support this, the Papua Province BPKP Representative will continue evaluating performance-based planning and budgeting in the third and fourth quarters of 2023 in five sectors, namely tourism, food security, MSMEs, poverty alleviation and stunting reduction in all Regional Governments.

“The purpose of this evaluation is to monitor the accuracy of targets, effectiveness and efficiency of regional government budgets from across related OPDs in achieving target outcomes in the five sectors which will of course have an impact on improving the welfare of the people in the Papua Province region,” he said.
