HD: 2022 Malay Culture Festival, Preserve South Sumatra’s Cultural Heritage

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru said that there are values ​​contained in the 2022 Malay Cultural Festival, namely how we explore the roots of our culture, which may not be fully exposed at this time due to limited information.

Found various traces of culture such as inscriptions, megalics, clothing attributes, and jewelry, can navigate us to know the culture that we have.

“This activity is one of the embankments that we make so that we have a clear identity. So that the existing culture is not easily eroded by foreign cultures,” he said.

Therefore, Governor HD has made a Governor Regulation that requires buildings in the South Sumatra region to use the tanjak symbol. This is in order to maintain the characteristics of cultural customs and local wisdom.

Besides that, HD also appreciates Sultan Iskandar Mahmud Badaruddin and Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin IV (SMB IV) who always wear Palembang traditional clothes, and show concern for culture.

“We are obliged to maintain our cultural heritage. Through this event we also invite the younger generation to care and preserve culture. I hope that by August 17 there will also be a cultural carnival at the sub-district level to show our diversity,” he said.

Head of South Sumatra Budpar H Aufa Syahrozal, SP., M.Sc., said this activity aims to preserve and develop South Sumatran culture, especially Malay to the younger generation. And filled with talk shows about the development of South Sumatra culture.

“As a result of input from historians and cultural observers, next year we will turn this event into a World Malay World Islamic Festival (DMDI) which will invite neighboring Malay countries,” he said. (mhn/ril)
