BMKG issues a heavy rain warning in several parts of Indonesia

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning forecast for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds that could potentially occur in several parts of Indonesia, on Sunday.

In information quoted from the BMKG website in Jakarta, Sunday, the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds was warned for the provinces of Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Jambi, Riau, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Similar conditions have the potential to occur in the provinces of West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua.

The BMKG stated that the cyclonic circulation was observed in Halmahera and the south of the Arafuru Sea which formed a convergence area extending from the northern Banda Sea to the eastern Arafuru Sea.

In addition, the convergence area was also observed extending from Aceh to the waters of the Nias Islands, the east coast of Lampung to the western waters of Lampung, in Central Sulawesi, in Maluku and from West Papua to Central Papua.

According to the BMKG, this condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence area. (ojn/bbs)
