Chairperson of The South Sumatra Legislative Council Attends The 42nd Bukit Asam Tbk

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Chairperson of the Legislative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra Province, Mrs. Hj. R.A. Anita Noeringhati, SH., MH., Attended The 42nd PT. Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) with the theme “Raise Beyond the Limits” as a hope to become a world-class energy and chemical company that cares about the environment. The activity was held at the Multipurpose Building PT. Bukit Asam Tanjung Enim. Thursday (02/03/2023).

PTBA Main Director, Arsal Ismail said the meaning of the theme was so that the company could cross existing boundaries. This state-owned energy company is expected to get out of the business paradigm that has so far been comfortable and only focuses on the existing business.

“Now is the time for PTBA to have breakthroughs to be able to achieve a long-term vision through the transformation efforts that we are currently carrying out,” said Arsal in a written statement, Thursday (2/3/2023).

He hopes that all Bukit Asam employees will be more solid and resilient in adapting to new challenges, collaborating to maximize every available opportunity and go beyond limits.

PTBA will no longer be a company that only focuses on selling coal, but it will be more than that. We will enter into a completely different business than before, namely downstream coal, and new and renewable energy, and carbon management,” he explained.

Bukit Asam in its 42nd anniversary distributed a number of aids and held social activities. Among them are free cataract operations for 40 beneficiaries in Muara Enim and Lahat Regencies, provision of prosthetic limbs for 15 beneficiaries in Muara Enim District.

Then, mass circumcision was also carried out for 500 children in 5 areas, namely Tanjung Agung District, Lawang Kidul District, Muara Enim District, West Merapi District, and East Merapi District.

In addition, the house renovation program was implemented as an effort to create decent, safe and resilient housing. It was recorded that 4 housing units received repairs. The locations are in Tanjung Enim Sub-District, South Tanjung Enim Sub-District, Darmo Village, and Tanjung Raja Village.

PTBA’s 42nd anniversary series of events were also enlivened by the MSME Bazaar at Berangau Sports Hall. A total of 57 MSMEs participated in this bazaar.

Also on this 42nd anniversary, Bukit Asam is marked by a number of positive achievements. The company managed to score a positive performance in 2022. As of the third quarter of 2022, the company managed to record a net profit of IDR 10.0 trillion. This net profit is the highest record in the history of Bukit Asam.

Not only that, Bukit Asam also continues to transform and diversify its business to face future challenges. One of Bukit Asam’s programs to realize this vision is coal to DME downstream.

“Apart from being a new energy source that is more environmentally friendly, implementing DME will reduce LPG imports and improve Indonesia’s trade balance,” said Arsal.

In addition, Bukit Asam has a number of ex-mining lands that can be utilized for the development of solar power plants (PLTS), such as the Ombilin post-mining land in West Sumatra covering an area of 201 hectares (ha) and in Tanjung Enim covering an area of 224 hectares.

The potential for PLTS in each of these lands, continued Arsal, reaches 200 Megawatts (MW). There is also a 30 ha post-mining area in East Kalimantan with a potential of 30 MW.

Bukit Asam recently explored the potential for cooperation in the development of PLTS at the operational locations of Semen Indonesia Group (SIG), PT Timah Tbk, and the Jasa Marga Group toll road. PTBA is also exploring the development of a wind power plant (PLTB) with China Huadian Corporation. (ojn/ril)
