HD : Provide Public Services for the Deaf in All Institutions in South Sumatra

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra H. Herman Deru (HD) opened the commemoration of International Sign Language Day (HBII) 2022 with the theme Sign Language Unite Us, which was organized by the Movement for the Welfare of the Indonesian Deaf (Gerkatin) South Sumatra at Griya Agung Palembang.

“I feel very proud this morning that I can witness firsthand the efforts of both individuals and institutions in supporting the movement and providing innovations to equalize the deaf with the non-deaf”, said HD when starting his speech.

HD also appreciates the performance of the General Chairperson of the DPD Gerkatin Sumsel, Iwan Oktarianto, who has built trust in all institutions and individuals to be able to continue to support and disseminate sign language to the public.

“On this anniversary, it reminds us that many of our people need services like this, in order to provide information to those with special needs and we have started to implement this in all public service places in South Sumatra,” said HD.

HD also emphasized that every government agency must provide non-deaf human resources to learn sign language, this needs to be done so that each agency can provide maximum service for those with special needs.

HD also asks that all parties can cooperate in supporting and socializing the movement for the deaf care so that equality for them can be realized immediately. (mhn/ril)
