HD visits settlement points for residents affected by the floods in Muara Enim Regency

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Accompanied by Acting Regent of Muara Enim Ahmad Usmarwi Kaffah, Governor Herman Deru had the opportunity to see the flood handling post near the Lubuk Nipis village hall. In this place, Herman Deru also handed over staple food assistance to the heads of families affected by the floods that have occurred since Thursday (9/3).

After inspecting the Governor’s post, Herman Deru and his entourage, besides interacting with residents who were submerged in the floods, they also had the opportunity to see closely a number of points where the damage had occurred, including taking a close look at the condition of the Meo River flow which was the source of the submersion of local residents’ settlements.

In his directives Governor Herman Deru expressed his concern over the natural disasters that occurred in Lahat District, Muara Enim Regency and a number of other areas which were caused by the overflow of a number of rivers during the current rainy season.

According to him, the flash floods that occurred were a sign from nature regarding the impact of environmental damage that occurred, especially in the upper reaches of the river, many of which were barren so that they were unable to accommodate rainwater infiltration, as a result, so much water spilled over to residential areas.

“We are reminded to clean up, replant the deforested forest so that flash floods don’t happen again. The losses incurred in this natural disaster include loss of time, material, and we must not lose our gratitude to the creator. The proof is that we are still healthy and safe, and most importantly there are no casualties,” he said.

Herman Deru invited all elements of society starting from the Provincial Government, Regency Government, BUMN, BUMD and assistant staff in charge to work together to help the people affected by the flood disaster. (mhn/ril)
