Herman Deru Emphasizes Innovation Should Not Be Just a Phrase, But Should Have a Direct Impact

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru continues to push for the strengthening of the regional research and innovation ecosystem to address fundamental societal issues. He received Dr. Yopi, Deputy for Regional Research and Innovation at BRIN, in Palembang on May 7.

“Innovation should not just be a discourse, but must be concrete and have a broad impact with efficient costs (low cost, high explosive),” he said.

The primary focus is on clean water provision, waste management, and food security. Through a collaboration between BRIN and BRIDA South Sumatra, the Regional Innovation House, which integrates the Science and Techno Park, was established as a national pilot project.

In addition, the 100,000 Young Sultans program was strengthened to develop creative, innovation-based young entrepreneurs supported by CSR funding. For this commitment, South Sumatra received a high Regional Competitiveness Index (IDSD) award.

HD is optimistic that this downstream research will make South Sumatra a national model for innovation that directly impacts the interests of the people.
