//Give agricultural machinery assistance to farmers
PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – Agriculture is one of the mainstay sectors in South Sumatra. Therefore, the Governor of South Sumatra, H Herman Deru, has been aggressively promoting agricultural land development so that the production of agricultural products in South Sumatra continues to increase. This was also done to realize South Sumatra’s aspirations as a national food barn.
“The success of agriculture on irrigated land is certainly a common thing. However, if the governor and regents and government officials come to land that may not be favored for agricultural production, it means that the area has the potential to be developed into a food barn,” said Herman Deru during the Initial Harvest. Paddy Paddy Field MT.2020 in Lontar Village, Muara Jaya District, OKU Regency.
According to HD, although the agricultural land in Lontar Village, Muara Jaya District, OKU Regency is not a technical irrigation area, the agricultural products of this area deserve thumbs up. Because currently, farmers in the area can harvest twice.
“We appreciate the commitment of the farmers here who are still enthusiastic so that they can now harvest twice with a yield of 4 tons per hectare. This is good enough for rain-fed rice fields like this,” he said.
It is known, the area of agricultural land in OKU Regency itself is 3,387 hectares. Where at this time, the harvest is able to meet the food needs in the district.
Although the land area is not very large, HD believes that agricultural products in OKU district can be increased. Even with the enthusiasm of the farmers and the encouragement of the government, OKU district could become one of the food storage areas in South Sumatra.
“Do not lose to rice fields that have technical irrigation. South Sumatra is committed to becoming a national food barn and OKU Regency must also contribute. If a food barn is for the region, OKU has surpassed it. Just how can the enthusiasm of farmers be further enhanced so that these farmers have souls? entrepreneur, “he explained.
This means, HD continued, farmers should not only be laborers on their own land. For this reason, the South Sumatra Provincial Government formed a committee for 2021 by appointing 1000 Laoangan Extension Officers (PPL) who will be distributed throughout districts and cities to villages in South Sumatra to provide education to farmers.
“This PPL will really help farmers so that they don’t become laborers on their own land. They (farmers) must produce agriculture maximally in order to support the family economy and support regional programs. South Sumatra must become a national food barn and become a mainstay not only for the slogan, its infrastructure and also all the things needed by farmers must be fulfilled, “he explained.
Not only that, HD also provided seeds and Agricultural Machine Tools (Alsintan) to farmers in OKU Regency in the form of 4 rice cutting machines, 6 units of 6 water pumps, 11 units of hand sprayer, 51 tons of 2020 corn seeds, and 11 tons of seeds. rice.
“This assistance is in the form of seeds to agricultural machinery so that agriculture here will increase so that it is not inferior to other regions. This is also a form of our encouragement so that farmers will be more enthusiastic,” he explained.
He hopes that this assistance can be used to increase agricultural production. Moreover, South Sumatra itself has been named as one of the 5th Highest Rice Production Provinces in 2019 along with four other provinces, namely Central Java, East Java, West Java and South Sulawesi.
Previously, HD itself had targeted rice production in South Sumatra in 2020 to reach 4,925,191 tons of GKG and until August 17, 2020 yesterday, rice production in South Sumatra had reached 2,899,041 tons of GKG with a new planting area of 840,663 hectares, additional planting area was needed. another area of 128,719 hectares so that the production target can be met this year.
