Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Legislative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra Province condemned and strongly condemned the burning of the Koran by a Swedish right-wing political figure, Rasmus Paludan.
This was conveyed by Deputy Chairman of the South Sumatra DPRD Muchendi Mahzareki, accompanied by Deputy Chairperson of Commission V DPRD Sumsel Mgs Syaiful Padli after receiving the arrival of the South Sumatran Justice Concern Forum at the South Sumatra DPRD Office, Wednesday (01/02/2023).
“Today we welcome the arrival of the Justice Concerned People’s Forum, related to the burning of the Koran. The position statements that have been expressed to us through several representatives, God willing, what will become the position statements will certainly be forwarded to a higher level,” said Muchendi.
As a Muslim, according to him, he felt humiliated and felt hurt by this action.
“Of course we need concrete steps from the central government of the Republic of Indonesia. Of course we as representatives of the people of South Sumatra will continue what was conveyed by this forum earlier,” he said.
Mgs Syaiful Padli, Deputy Chairman of Commission V DPRD of South Sumatra, promised to convey this protest and strong demands to several ministries to the Indonesian Parliament and the President of the Republic of Indonesia so that this could be addressed immediately.
At least it is a form of apology to Muslims around the world, especially in South Sumatra and Palembang,” said the PKS politician.
Previously, the representative of the Sumsel Concerned Justice Community Forum, Habib Mahdi, strongly criticized the burning of the Koran.
“Of course we really criticize. I am sure that wherever you are, you will condemn this action. Of course this criticism requires concrete steps to be addressed. That’s why we have to address it, we have to report it to a higher level so that our government has an attitude towards this,” he said. (ojn/ril)
