Palembang, Berita Rakyat Sumatera – Member of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra Province, M. Toha, attended the soft launch of the Palembang souvenir center which was held in the Marogan Wakaf Village Religious Tourism area, precisely at the Kiai Marogan Mosque, Palembang, Friday (13/3/2026).
The event was opened by the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, and attended by the Head of the Bank Indonesia South Sumatra Representative Office and several heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPDs) within the South Sumatra Provincial Government. The presence of these stakeholders reflects the government’s support for the development of religious tourism areas integrated with community economic empowerment.
The initial launch of this souvenir center is part of a strategic effort to optimize the potential of Marogan Wakaf Village as a history and culture-based religious tourism destination. The facility is designed to showcase Palembang’s superior products and serve as a promotional space for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Furthermore, the development of the Marogan Waqf Village is also directed at reviving the role and exemplary character of Kiai Marogan as a great scholar of South Sumatra who contributed to the spread of Islamic preaching in Palembang during his time.
With its strong historical and religious significance, this area is considered to have the potential to develop as a center for religious activities and a center for the Islamic economy. The South Sumatra Provincial Government is committed to encouraging collaboration between various parties to accelerate the area’s development.
Through the launch of this Palembang souvenir center, Marogan Wakaf Village is expected to grow into a leading religious tourism destination that not only preserves historical and cultural heritage but also has a tangible impact on improving the well-being of the surrounding community.
