Bogor, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi accompanied by the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya, reviewed the progress of the construction of the Bogor-Sukabumi double track railway on Sunday.
The Minister of Transportation conveyed the challenges in building railway lines in areas that have different altitude levels.
“The Ministry of Transportation is making construction engineering efforts to reduce the height and create a double track,” said Budi Karya.
Budi explained that the purpose of constructing the double track is to increase the capacity of the trains, as well as shorten the travel time.
The number of trains has increased to eight trains per series, from the previous five trains.
Meanwhile, the travel time is 80 minutes, compared to the previous 100 minutes.
He said people from Bogor and Sukabumi would be able to enjoy train journeys starting this weekend.
“This is nothing but increasing connectivity, in accordance with President Jokowi’s directives,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Transportation together with the Bogor City Government and the Sukabumi Regency Government would also coordinate to develop several heritage stations.
“The station will have a place for art, it can be a tourist spot. I asked the Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a deeper study,” he concluded. (ojn/bbs)
