Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The National Student Sports Week (POPNAS) is the highest and most prestigious multi-sport student event at the national level in Indonesia, organized by the Indonesian Student Sports Development Board. In 2023, the Province of South Sumatra will host POPNAS XVI, whose opening was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Dito Ariotedjo, accompanied by the Governor of South Sumatra, H Herman Deru.
Ir. S.A. Supriono, Chair of the POPNAS XVI Committee, said that POPNAS XVI held 22 sports, attended by 34 provinces, 5,266 athletes, 1,152 coaches, CDM and 560 officials, a total of 6,998 athletes, coaches, officials from 34 provinces.
Governor HD expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian Ministry of Education for working together to be able to organize POPNAS XVI 2023 in Palembang City, South Sumatra.
“Hopefully we can be a good host not only in receiving but guiding guests in this case athletes, teams and officials from the attendance of the implementation, matches to closing and returning to their respective places” said HD.
And to all student athletes, HD wishes Fight to win but still maintain sportsmanship.
Menpora Dito Ariotedjo gave his highest appreciation to the Provincial Government of South Sumatra.
“We express our highest gratitude and appreciation to the host and the organizing committee for preparing POPNAS XVI 2023 in South Sumatra very well, initially POPNAS was held in 2 provinces with 29 sports but in the middle of the journey one of the provinces withdrew but even so, South Sumatra refuses to step down and remains committed to moving forward as the sole host for organizing POPNAS XVI in 2023 with 22 sports branches,” said Dito.
For MENPORA POPNAS is not just a competition, POPNAS has an important role in shaping the character of the younger generation. (mhn/ril)
