Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Gender Mainstreaming (PUG) is a strategy that is implemented rationally and systematically to achieve gender equality and justice in human life. Through policies and programs that pay attention to the experiences, aspirations, needs, and problems of women and men, the goal of PUG is to empower women so that they have an equal role with men in various aspects of life.
Chairperson of the Legislative Council (DPRD) of South Sumatra Province, Hj. R.A. Anita Noeringhati, SH., MH., was one of the speakers at the 2023 South Sumatra Regional Police Gender Mainstreaming Working Group (PUG) Workshop which was held at the Ballroom of Hotel Santika Palembang, Thursday (22/6/2023).

In this workshop, Anita conveyed the importance of the role of all parties in promoting gender mainstreaming. He stressed the need for awareness and cooperation from all elements of society to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination. “We must jointly create an environment that supports women in developing their potential,” explained Anita.
Dean of FISIP Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS), Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc., also provided valuable insights on the importance of gender mainstreaming in an academic context. “Education is one of the effective efforts to encourage social change, including in creating gender equality,” he said.
Also attending the workshop was the Deputy Chief of Regional Police of South Sumatra, Brigadier General Pol. M. Zulkarnain, SIK., M.Si, Head of PUG Polda Sumsel, Kombes Pol. Agus Santosa, SH., SIK., Head of the National Police Headquarters Socialization Team, Brigadier General Pol. dr. Desy Andriani, Polwan, Dean of FISIP Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS), Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc.
It is hoped that this workshop will generate constructive ideas and recommendations that can be implemented by the South Sumatra Regional Police and the wider community. With collaboration between various parties, it is hoped that gender mainstreaming can be realized better in South Sumatra Province, as well as have a positive impact on the whole community.
