Together with the Indonesian Minister of Religion, Herman Deru Encourages Strengthening of Tahfiz Houses and Religious Harmony in South Sumatra

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru attended a grand religious study session with Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar at the Cheng Ho Mosque in Palembang on Tuesday (May 12, 2026). The event was solemn and attended by various government officials, religious leaders, and the South Sumatra community.

“We are all here to broaden our insight and knowledge, both in terms of hablum minallah and hablum minannas,” said Herman Deru, starting his speech.

He also conveyed his welcome to the Indonesian Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, and his appreciation for the synergy that has been established between the South Sumatra Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion and the South Sumatra Provincial Government.

According to Herman Deru, various religious programs that have developed in South Sumatra were inspired by the Minister of Religion’s thoughts and attention to Qur’an education.

“I was inspired by you to create one village, one tahfiz in this province, because you inspired me regarding knowledge of the Qur’an,” he said.

He added that the presence of tahfiz houses in South Sumatra has yielded numerous achievements, including the success of South Sumatran children in the top 10 nationally at the National Quran Recitation Competition (MTQ). Furthermore, this year, South Sumatra was one of the provinces with the largest number of Hajj pilgrims, with around 7,000.

“We are very happy that the Minister has given as much time as possible to share knowledge with the people of South Sumatra,” added Herman Deru.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, on that occasion also provided religious sermons and messages to the people present to continue strengthening the values ​​of faith, togetherness, and the spirit of maintaining harmony in community life.

Also in attendance were the Head of the South Sumatra Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office, Syafitri Irwan, the Deputy High Prosecutor of South Sumatra, Anton Delianto, the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Tony Kurniawan, the Head of General Affairs and Equipment, Darmayanti, the Head of Social Welfare, Sunarto, and the Rector of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, Muhammad Adil.
