Instanbul, TheIndonesiaPost – The four teams that have already confirmed the steps to the quarter-finals of the Champions League are Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid must start preparing.
Quoted from Sky Sports, UEFA already has a proposal related to the new schedule of the Champions League and Europa League which will be discussed at the executive committee member meeting (Exco) next week. The proposal will also be discussed with 55 association members and the entire club.
In the new proposal, UEFA plans to hold the Champions League final on August 29, 2020, in Istanbul. While the Europa League final will be held on August 26, 2020, remain in Gdansk from the original schedule on May 27.
Originally the 2020 Champions League Final was scheduled to take place at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul, Turkey, on May 30. However, the coronavirus outbreak or COVID-19 made UEFA have to change the European club’s competition schedule.
UEFA has two options to restart the Champions League and Europa League with the final idea still holding the final in August 2020. The first option of the competition will be held again if European domestic leagues can start in June 2020.
The second option is if the domestic leagues continue to be postponed until June, then the Champions League and Europa League can only be held again after the leagues are finished. However, the format of the Final Four can only be realized if UEFA completes part of the second leg of the last 16 round and the quarter-finals of the Champions League. (Alex/bbs)
