Minister of Trade: Indonesia is ready to assist the Turkish government in handling the earthquake

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said that Indonesia is ready to assist the Turkish government in handling the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday (6/2).

This was conveyed by Zulkifli when he visited the Turkish Embassy in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/2). During his visit, Zulkifli was accompanied by Bara Krishna Hasibuan to meet the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Indonesia Ahmet Cemil Miroglu.

“Indonesia is ready to assist the Turkish Government in handling the earthquake,” said Zulkifli in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Zulkifli expressed his deep condolences and sympathy for the earthquake tragedy that hit this region of Turkey.

“Expressing condolences and deep sympathy for the earthquake tragedy a few days ago which killed thousands of people. I wish Turkey the best, I hope the people and country will recover and get better,” he said.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred in Turkey on Monday (6/2), which resulted in 500 fatalities and 3,000 people were injured. Apart from Turkey, several countries such as Syria, Lebanon and Israel were also affected by the earthquake that occurred in Turkey.

The depth of the earthquake that occurred at 01:17:36 GMT (at 08:17:36 WIB) reached 24.1 kilometers. The US Geological Monitoring Institute (USGS) recorded 24 aftershocks after the main quake in Turkey. The epicenter occurred roughly along the East Anatolian Fault. (mhn/bbs)
