Omicron attacks Wuhan, spreads to three cities

Beijing, The Indonesia Post – The city of Wuhan as the place where the COVID-19 case was first discovered at the end of 2019 was again attacked by an outbreak of the disease that attacks the respiratory tract, but this time the Omicron variant which later spread to three other cities in China.

In three consecutive days since Monday (21/2), in the capital city of Hubei Province, 23 positive cases of COVID-19, suspected to be the Omicron variant, have been found.

The nine new cases on Tuesday (22/2) and Wednesday (23/2) were close contacts, Wuhan health authorities told the press on Wednesday.

The first Omicron case in Wuhan was discovered from a cosmetic employee training forum.

The case spread to Beijing because one of the trainees took a train back from Wuhan.

To date, more than 720,000 Wuhan residents have undergone PCR tests.

Since Omicron was discovered in Wuhan on Monday there have been 663 close contacts and 3,018 secondary contacts who have all been quarantined.

One hotel in Wuchang District and a residential complex building in Jiangan District as a place for employee training have been declared high risk areas for COVID-19.

Besides Beijing, the Omicron case in Wuhan has spread to Qingdao (Shandong Province) and Shijiazhuang (Hebei Province).

The cosmetic employee training was attended by 66 people, 24 of whom had left Wuhan, according to local health authorities. (mhn/bbs)
