The Corruption Eradication Commission has emphasized that it is not impartial to investigate the bribery case for the provision of social assistance

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri emphasized that his agency did not first look at investigating the bribery case for the provision of social assistance (bansos) for the Jabodetabek area in 2020.

“The KPK works with the principal duties of the KPK and everything is accountable to the public, we never discriminate, that’s our principle,” Firli said in his statement in Jakarta, Monday.

Furthermore, he also ensured that his agency would study any information that developed in the case which would later be confirmed by the witnesses being examined.

“Later on, it will be opened in court. However, in principle all information that develops will certainly be confirmed to the witnesses, “said Firli.

Therefore, he said, the KPK would continue to work, including examining witnesses who were suspected of knowing the series of events so that the alleged actions of the suspects in the case would become clearer.

The KPK also did not rule out the possibility of ensnaring other parties as suspects in the case through gathering evidence and also examining witnesses.

“The KPK is currently collecting evidence and witness testimony to reveal the details of the case in order to find the suspect. “In time, the KPK will definitely convey it to the public, give us time to work,” he said.

Previously, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) reminded that there should not be elements within the KPK who try to localize the handling of the bribery case for the social assistance procurement.

ICW also asked the KPK Supervisory Board to closely supervise the handling of the case so that there were no systematic efforts or interventions from internal KPK that attempted to thwart the work of the investigating team.

“Because, until now the KPK seems reluctant to summon several people suspected of having knowledge related to social assistance procurement. Especially the politicians who have been widely reported by the media, “said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in his statement in Jakarta, Monday.

In this case, the KPK has named five suspects in total, namely the former Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Juliari Peter Batubara (JPB), two Commitment Making Officials (PPK) at the Ministry of Social Affairs Matheus Joko Santoso (MJS) and Adi Wahyono (AW) and two people from private parties Ardian Iskandar Maddanatja (AIM) and Harry Van Sidabukke (HS).

Juliari is suspected of receiving bribes worth Rp. 17 billion from the “fee” for providing basic food assistance for people affected by COVID-19 in Jabodetabek. Matheusdan Adi agreed to a “fee” for each package of social assistance in the amount of Rp. 10,000 per basic food package of Rp. 300 thousand per package of social assistance. (icn/bbs)
