TNI Commander emphasized that he would not protect his members if they were wrong

Situbondo, The Indonesia Post – The Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, emphasized that he would not protect (the two unscrupulous members who were named as suspects for alleged bribery in the procurement of goods at Basarnas) who were wrong.

“The TNI will not protect those who are wrong. The person concerned has been named a suspect and since yesterday I have signed for an arrest and it has been carried out,” said the TNI Commander after observing the TNI Dharma Yudha 2023 Joint Exercise at the Baluran 5 Marine Combat Training Center, Situbondo, East Java , Tuesday.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency/Basarnas) Air Marshal (Marsdya) TNI Henri Alfiandi (HA) and Koorsmin Kabasarnas Lt. Col. Adm Afri Budi Cahyanto (ABC) as suspects with three other people in the alleged procurement bribery case goods at Basarnas.

“I have always obeyed the law. There may be a lot going on outside of our intervention in this case. We don’t intervene in that,” said Yudo Margono.

“Of course we enforce the law politely. There is already a law that regulates it, yes, of course we must obey and submit to the law,” he added.

As stated by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD, he continued, the TNI is subject to Military Courts in accordance with Law Number 31 of 1997.

“Even if the Law on the TNI Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI for the Public, it is waiting until this law has not been regulated, so that it uses a Military Court,” he said.

The TNI Commander added that the public could follow the course of the investigation (the alleged bribery case at Basarnas).

“The TNI is still subject to the law and I will not protect it. If you are wrong, you will be penalized, and if you excel, we will definitely give you an award,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
