Mahfud MD said that Papuan figures support law enforcement against corruption suspect Lukas Enembe

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD said conditions in Papua were conducive after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested the suspect in the alleged corruption case, inactive Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.

“Now Papua is very conducive and Papuan leaders have spoken so that the law is upheld against Lukas Enembe. All of them, the KNPI chairman, community leaders, traditional leaders (say) uphold the law,” said Mahfud at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday.

Mahfud assessed that this conducive condition was evident from the fewer people involved in demonstrations since the arrest of Lukas Enembe in Jayapura City, Papua, on Tuesday (10/1).

“We were constantly criticized by the people, as if we were afraid of Lukas Enembe and his gang. Yes, we investigated how big it was? At first, thousands of people demonstrated, we let them. Finally, it went downhill, until finally it was below 100 (people). Even then, only people eat. How do you count it? Count how many packs of rice you bought for that person’s love. Every day it goes down, it means there are no followers every day. It’s very conducive right now, isn’t it?” Mahfud said.

The government continues to monitor the movement of money by people related to the suspect, Lukas Enembe.

“There is money authorized by this, therefore; we are monitoring it through PPATK (Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center). If it is used to carry out unlawful acts, vandalism, and so on; (then) we will take it as soon as possible,” he said. .

After being arrested, Lukas Enembe was dismissed for medical treatment at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/1). However, on Wednesday (12/1), the suspension of detention was canceled so that Lukas Enembe underwent an examination at the KPK Building, Jakarta.

KPK named Lukas Enembe as a suspect together with PT Tabi Bangun Papua Director Rijatono Lakka in the alleged bribery and gratuity case related to an infrastructure development project in Papua Province.

In this case, Rijatono Lakka allegedly handed over Rp. 1 billion to Lukas Enembe after being selected to work on three infrastructure projects at the Papua Provincial Government, namely the multi-year project to improve the Entrop-Hamadi road with a project value of Rp. 14.8 billion; a multi-year rehabilitation project for supporting facilities and infrastructure for Integration Early Childhood Education with a project value of IDR 13.3 billion; and a multi-year environmental management project for AURI outdoor shooting venues with a project value of IDR 12.9 billion.

The KPK suspects that the suspect, Lukas Enembe, has received other gifts as gratuities related to his position, which, based on initial evidence, have so far amounted to around IDR 10 billion.

For the purposes of investigation, the KPK detained Lukas Enembe for the next 20 days from 11-30 January 2023 at the KPK Detention Center at Pomdam Jaya Guntur. (mhn/bbs)
