Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru (HD) attended the Grand Recitation of the 40th Anniversary of the Al Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School which was combined with a Halal Bihalal gathering of the people of Sumber Harjo Village, Buay Madang Timur District, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, Monday (11/5) afternoon.
In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, Governor HD reminded that technological advancements must not diminish social values within society. He recalled the significant changes occurring in daily life, from the advancement of communication tools to the ease with which people can interact virtually.
“Don’t let friendship disappear. The world is changing so rapidly and unimaginably,” said HD.
According to him, technological progress must be balanced with social concern and attention to education and character building of children.
“The biggest challenge today is not only creating a generation that is academically intelligent, but also one that possesses good morals and is ready to face the changing times. There are already many smart children, but there needs to be just as many children with good morals. Children must be nurtured to be courageous and ready to face change,” he said.
Herman Deru also emphasized the importance of sincerity and resilience in life. He described silaturahmi as a strength that can shape a strong personality and care for others.
Meanwhile, the sermon delivered by KH. Anwar Zahid during the religious study reminded people that positions, ranks, and positions are merely gifts from Allah SWT and must be carried out responsibly. According to the sermon, a good leader is one who is present among the people and whose policies are truly felt to be beneficial to the people.
Also in attendance were East Oku Regent Lanosin, Head of Baznas South Sumatra H. Darami, and heads of regional government agencies (OPD) in South Sumatra Province. (mhn/ril)
