Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – Floods hit Aceh Besar District, Aceh Province. This flood cannot be separated from heavy rains which flushed since two days ago.
As of Saturday (9/5), the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) recorded a total of 1,193 houses in Aceh Besar that were flooded. And a three-year-old baby died.
“The toddler is three years old. The victim was dragged by a flood current as far as 1 km from his home. Its location is in Bireun Regency,” said Head of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA), Sunawardi was quoted from CNNIndonesia.com.
Sunawardi said that his party was still conducting data collection related to the overall number of refugees due to flooding caused by the overflow of the river in Aceh Besar.
“Floods in a number of roads and homes of residents due to rainwater that falls,” Sunawardi said, Saturday (9/5) quoted from CNNIndonesia.com.
At present the victims are displaced at two points, namely in Garot Elementary School in Darul Imarah Subdistrict, Aceh Besar with 345 lives and in SD Makhad in the Lampasie Eungking housing complex as many as 30 families.
There are 10 villages in five districts affected by flooding in Aceh Besar, namely Lampasie Engking Village, Garot, Lambhue, Villa Buana Complex, Gue Gajah, Cot Rangkang, Reuloh, Krueng Kala, Geunteut, Lhoong, Biluy and Ajuen Village.
Besides in Aceh Besar, floods also submerged six sub-districts in Banda Aceh City with water levels ranging from 20 cm to 1.3 meters. Six sub-districts affected by flooding in Banda Aceh, namely Jaya Baru, Meuraxa, Kuta Alam, Kuta Raja, Baiturrahman and Syiah Kuala.
It rained again this morning. This time it was Bireuen Regency’s turn to be hit by the flood. There are eight sub-districts inundated. One person was declared dead due to being swept away by the flood current. (ojan/rama/bbs)
