Social Minister reviews the worst flood disaster in Trenggalek Regency

Trenggalek, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, on Sunday reviewed the wet hydrometeorological disaster that triggered the worst series of floods and landslides in the Munjungan District, Trenggalek Regency, East Java.

Greeted by the Regent of Trenggalek, Mochamad Nur Arifin, together with the forkopimda and his staff, the former mayor of Surabaya witnessed the impact of the flood which had ravaged infrastructure in the sub-district in the south of Trenggalek.

Even during her visit, Social Minister Risma said that the disaster in Trenggalek was the worst of the three floods and landslides that occurred in East Java on Friday (3/11) and Sunday morning.

Moving quickly to help with the handling of the wet hydrometeorological disaster in the Munjungan sub-district, the Minister of Social Affairs disbursed assistance worth Rp. 628.348 million in the form of logistics, public kitchen equipment and also in other forms of assistance.

Not only that, Risma will also help mobilize some heavy equipment for the cleaning needs of the remaining flood material, the value of which is estimated to be greater than the first aid.

This assistance was given because one of the female ministers in the era of the President Joko Widodo-Makruf Amin was concerned about the conditions in Munjungan District.

Risma, who observed directly at the disaster site, also did not hesitate to jump into the river to help evacuate garbage and wooden blocks that were blocking the flow of water.

During the incident, the garbage and wooden beams became one of the causes of one of the bridges in the sub-district to collapse.

“I am grateful, I came. I happened to be right in Surabaya and initially there were three incidents (disasters) in Banyuwangi, Ngantang Malang and also Trenggalek. In my opinion, this was the toughest in Trenggalek,” said Risma.

If we saw earlier, she continued, adding, the flow of the river endangers all. “If the handling is not fast there will be sliding-sliding. Even the road will be eroded then maybe housing,” she added.

For this reason, Risma decided to hand over aid and at the same time directly observe this disaster to Trenggalek.

“This is initial assistance, logistics for the community. Later I will also help to rent heavy equipment and then we will also bring it from Jakarta,” she said.

Risma added that she will also contact the Mayor of Surabaya to help with heavy equipment because this is not the peak season yet. “So that’s why the preparation must be fast,” she said.

In addition to the problem of gabions needed in large quantities for badminton and damaged (damaged) river embankments, Risma saw that almost all roads and bridges were in critical condition.

“That’s why we bought them from Surabaya. Then I asked the Police Chief and the Dandim, for the time being the critical areas were not passed by heavy vehicles. Because the load will affect the strength of the road. there is no barrier at all. If a heavy vehicle passes it, it will easily fall off,” she said.

“Indeed, the natural conditions are like this, so we must work together. The government cannot solve it alone, the community must work together to handle all of this because I really believe that the power of the community is prayer. Because prayer will surely grant it,” concluded Risma.

The Trenggalek Regent, while accompanying the Minister of Social Affairs’ visit, added, “Today I accompanied the Minister of Social Affairs. She went around, in addition to providing input related to the social condition of the river, she wanted to make sure if, but we don’t want if there is another flood, there will be another broken bridge. it is feared that there will be rural spots, isolated hamlets. Therefore, mother ordered to prepare public kitchens in areas where it is possible to be isolated, “he said. (mhn/bbs)
