Bandung, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the arrest of an attempt to smuggle 1,196 methamphetamine in Pangandaran Regency, West Java, saved more than 5 million lives from drug abuse.
The National Police Chief explained that the millions of people who were saved were assumed that one gram of crystal methamphetamine could be consumed by five people.
“We have now saved approximately 5,950,000 people from the dangers of drug abuse,” said Listyo at the Police Intelligence Education Center, Bandung Regency, West Java, Thursday.
In addition, he continued, methamphetamine weighing more than 1 ton had a value of IDR 1.43 trillion if it was successfully circulated. With the assumption, he said, one gram is sold at a price of IDR 1.2 million.
“I ask for this to continue to be eradicated from upstream to downstream. I also ask all regional police chiefs, police chiefs if any members are involved, fire and punish them and give the maximum penalty,” Listyo said.
From the disclosure, five people were named as suspects. The five suspects, he said, had the initials SA (33), HM (41), HH (39), AH (38), and M (20) who were Afghan citizens.
Previously, the Directorate of Drug Investigation of the West Java Police thwarted efforts to circulate methamphetamine on the beach in Parigi District, Pangandaran Regency, West Java, Wednesday (16/3) at 14.00 WIB.
The methamphetamine was found wrapped in a sack with the condition hidden in a fishing boat. The methamphetamine was allegedly sent via the southern coastal waters of West Java. (mhn/bbs)
