Improve KRL services, Minister of Transportation operates Matraman Station

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi together with the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (MenkopUKM) Teten Masduki, attended the operation of Matraman Station Jakarta, Sunday.

“We want mass transportation (KRL) to be a priority for the community. Currently, trains have become the people’s main choice, especially in urban areas and agglomerations,” said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya.

He said Matraman Station is in a strategic position, between the two busiest KRL stations, namely Jatinegara Station and Manggarai Station. Its presence is expected to reduce the density of KRL passenger volume and support the smooth mobility of people who will go up and down KRL in the Matraman, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, and Manggarai areas.

The Minister of Transportation also said that he would continue to improve mass transportation services for the Jabodetabek KRL, including through the Double-Double Track (DDT), shortening the headway (waiting time for arrivals between trains) to three minutes, and revitalizing stations.

“Currently, there are 1.2 million users of the Jabodetabek electric train per day. In the future, we will continue to increase to 2 million passengers per day. God willing, we can do it in 2-3 years,” said the Minister of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation further said that the presence of transportation infrastructure also supports progress in other sectors such as tourism and SMEs. For this reason, 30 percent of the commercial area has been allocated for MSMEs.

“We have collaborated with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, together with PT KAI to allocate a commercial area at the station for MSMEs,” he said.

On the same occasion, MenkopUKM Teten Masduki appreciated the Minister of Transportation’s support for MSMEs. “This affirmation policy will be welcomed by MSME actors,” he said.

The construction of Matraman Station is part of the Manggarai – Cikarang Double-Double Track Mega Project. The station was started to be built in 2016 by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation with a budget of Rp. 34 billion, which was sourced from State Sharia Securities (SBSN).

Matraman Station has two train lines with one platform 250 meters long and 5 meters wide. The Matraman Station building consists of 2 floors with a building area of 3,010 square meters and is equipped with escalators, elevators, manual stairs, and a parking area of 2,625 square meters.

Matraman Station is targeted to be able to serve up to 10,000 KRL passengers per day. During the trial period, this station has served up and down passengers as many as 1,200 passengers per day.

Later this station will also be integrated with the Transjakarta Bus Stop which serves three corridors, namely Ancol, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, and Senen. (ojn/bbs)
