Secretary General: G20 Empower reduces gender inequality in the digital field

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Secretary General (Secretary General) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Mira Tayyiba said, G20 Empower encourages the improvement of digital skills and digital literacy, especially for women to reduce gender inequality in these two fields.

“We want to improve digital literacy and digital skills, and this will be used as a framework for measuring progress, and with this we can close or reduce the digital divide,” Mira said at the G20 Empower Third Side Event entitled “The Future of Work: Acceleration, Opportunity , and Challenges for Women in the World of Work and Business” which was followed virtually in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Mira who is also the Chair or Chair of the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) of the G20 Indonesia Presidency said, G20 Empower wants to ensure that the gender gap, especially in the digital field, is getting smaller.

Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed between the government, industry and other stakeholders to realize this goal.

In addition, it must also be ensured that women can take and take advantage of adequate opportunities and assistance such as training and access to improve their digital skills.

“Digital technology affects our lives in various aspects. Therefore, we must take this opportunity to foster better gender equality in the private sector and also promote more productive economic growth,” she said.

In order to improve digital skills and digital literacy, apart from accessing connectivity and improving digital infrastructure, advocacy is also important to ensure that people can access connectivity as part of human connectivity.

“We also see that this also underlines connectivity and looks at the availability and responsible use of such connectivity,” said Mira.

The G20 Presidency of Indonesia and the delegations of G20 member countries agreed on three priority issues with a major theme to achieve inclusive, empowering and sustainable digital transformation.

Mira said the three priority issues discussed in the DEWG were post-COVID-19 recovery and connectivity, digital skills and digital literacy, as well as cross-border data flow and the free flow of data based on trust.

The three priority issues to achieve inclusive digital transformation are in line with the grand theme of the G20 Indonesia Presidency “Recover together, Recover Stronger”.

The G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation (G20 Empower) accelerates the leadership and empowerment of women in the private sector. (mhn/bbs)
